Pakistan over passenger plane crash
Von mademms, 05:17Iranian Foreign Ministry offered condolences to the Pakistani government over Wednesday's passenger plane crash that claimed the lives of more than 150 people, local satellite Press TV reported.
In a condolence message sent to Pakistani officials on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of those killed in the accident, the report said. "The Iranian government and nation are very sad over the painful event," Mehmanparast was quoted as saying by the official IRNA news agency.
At about 10:00 a.m. local time this morning, an airbus A320 with flight number ED-202 carrying 147 people including six crew members crashed in the Margalla Hills lying to the northeast part of Islamabad minutes before it was supposed to land at the capital 's airport.
Earlier reports say that there were 159 people aboard the plane, but 12 out of them, who planned to travel on this flight, did not turn up.
The plane, which belonged to a local private airliner Airblue, was on its way from Turkey to Islamabad via Karachi. It took off from the Karachi International Airport at about 7:50 am local time Wednesday morning.
Among all the people aboard, there were reportedly 20 women and five children.
